Scores Dead in Boko Haram Raids in Nigeria

Boko Haram Militants Strike Again!

Boko Haram once again brought terror in Nigeria by killing 28 people on remote farming and fishing villages in northeast part of the African country.

According to media reports, the extremist militants killed twenty-four people by slitting their throats in a remote village in Marfunudi.

Meanwhile, the militants killed four people in a fishing village in Kafa where the dead bodies were thrown in the river.

Reports like these are not something new in Nigeria where the militant groups are spreading terror and killing innocent civilians.

The notorious militant group made headline in April 2014 when they abducted 276 girls from a schook in Chibok. The abduction of the innocent girls spread like wildfire in the global context and drew international condemnation.

US Condemns Raids on Nigerian Villages

In a press statement in Washington DC, US Department Spokesperson John Kirby said the United States strongly condemns the raids on villages in northeast Nigeria on August 28.

“We extend our sympathies to the families and loved ones of the civilians who were killed and injured.” – Mr. Kirby

According to Mr. Kirby, the deadly raids are just additional examples of the horrific violence that Boko Haram continues to use to terrorize civilians in northeast Nigeria and the Lake Chad Basin region.

Mr. Kirby recalled that August 27 marked the 500th day since Boko Haram kidnapped 276 girls from their school in Chibok.

“We send our continued condolences to the families and loved ones of the girls who remain missing.” – Mr. Kirby

He added that the abduction of the school girls in Chibok galvanized international attention for the Boko Haram conflict.

Amid the ongoing indiscriminate violence perpetrated by the extremist group, the United States expressed commitment to support the governments and people of the Lake Chad Basin region in their ongoing struggle to degrade and defeat Boko Haram.

Sectarian Violence Escalated in Nigeria in 2012

Earlier in 2012, spiraling violence escalated in Nigeria as the terrorist group unleashed a series of attacks.

Boko Haram militants attacked several churches on Christmas Day, killing dozens of worshipers. The bombings occurred in Madala, on the outskirts of Abuja, the Nigerian capital, and in the north-eastern city of Jos.

The United Nations human rights chief, Navi Pillay, urged a bold effort by Nigeria’s political and religious leaders to halt the spiraling sectarian violence.

Boko Haram Means “western education is forbidden”

The Boko Haram militant group strongly opposes the introduction of western education in Africa. The group launched military operations in 2009 to create an Islamic state. Since then, they have staged deadly terrorist attacks that killed thousands of people.

In 2013, the US declared Boko Haram a terrorist group.
