Kenyan University False Terror Scare Injures Scores Of Students

One student died and 168 others were injured following a security scare at the University of Nairobi Kikuyu campus.

There were several serious injuries after they jumped from their hostels to the ground just before dawn on 12 April after the 4:30 am incident in which they mistook the explosion from an electricity transformer for a terrorist attack.

The student who died was firstly in a critical condition after he landed on his head. Some students jumped from the sixth floor of their hostels.

Students avoided using the main entrance in getting out and opted to jump out through the windows because they believed Alshabab attackers were there.

Eye witnesses said the transformer went out in three loud blasts, plunging the dormitory into darkness, which heightened the panic among the students.

Nairobi’s hospitals are treating more than 80 students injured at the recent Al-shabaab attack on Garissa University premises, which killed 148 people in a siege a week ago.
