Nagaland Militant Attacks Threaten Assam’s Stability

161 people killed in Assam by Naga miscreants since 1972

At least 161 people in Assam were killed in Nagaland militant attacks since 1972, Assam’s government said during the state assembly on Wednesday.

Responding to a question raised by AIUDF MLA Aminul Islam, state Parliamentary minister Rockybul Hussain said at least 161 people were killed and 171 others were injured in 25 attacks by Nagaland miscreants in the inter state border areas since 1972.

The minister said that in Golaghat district, at least 136 people were killed and 166 others were injured in nine attacks since 1977 while 19 people were killed in twelve attacks between 1972 and 2013 in Sivsagar district.

In Jorhat district, Nagaland miscreants ofilled three people in dual attack in 1982. In 2013 in Karbi Anglong district at least three people killed and five others injured in two attacks in 2004 and 2014.

In addition, a total of 59,159.77 hectares of Assam land are at present under the encroachment of Nagaland.

Rockybul Hussain said that in Golaghat district 36,013.48 hectares of land are occupied by Nagaland while 18,871.29 hectares land of Jorhat district are encroached by the neighbouring state.

Nagaland had encroached on a total of 4275 hectares of land in Sivsagar district.

On Sunday, one week ago, security forces arrested seventeen cadres and linkmen of different outfit groups including two hardcore NDFB(S) militants throughout Assam officials said. [ NewsBlaze ]
