India’s president Shri Pranab Mukherjee appointed Narendra Modi as the new prime minister of the world’s largest democracy.

Who is Mr. Modi?
Mr. Modi is a former tea seller who gained positive popularity because of his reputation as a tough administrator. A majority of Indians are optimistic about Mr. Modi’s appointment as a starting point to elevate India’s weakening economy.
His vision is seen as a pro-Hindu. People day he is a good administrator who is very strict and gets things done.
Mr. Modi has a good track record as the person behind the progress of Gujarat, a state in India whose rate of growth in recent years has been soaring, much like China.
Mr. Modi promised to mobilizes efforts to eradicate poverty, create employment opportunities and provide a safer environment for women.
The Bharatiya Janata Party has swept the five-phase national elections that concluded on May 12. The BJP won 282 of the 543 seats of the parliament’s lower house.
The people of India held the biggest democratic election in human history. More than 530 million Indians went to the polls to cast their votes.
US Congratulates Mr. Modi On His Election
In a press statement in Washington DC, US Secretary John Kerry congratulates Bharatiya Janata Party on their victory in India’s historic national election, and to Narendra Modi on his election as Prime Minister of India.

Secretary Kerry said the United States stands ready to work closely with Prime Minister Modi and the new government to promote shared prosperity and strengthen our security.
He added that the friendship between the world’s oldest democracy and the world’s largest democracy is absolutely vital, and the United States is deeply invested in its strategic relationship.

U.S.-India Strategic Dialogue
Since Secretary Clinton hosted Minister Krishna in Washington in June for the third U.S.-India Strategic Dialogue, the interaction between the two governments has continued to deepen and expand. Strong support across the political spectrum in the United States, as well as in India, gives us reason for continued optimism about the bilateral relationship in the years ahead.
The US considers India a model of democratic governance, tolerance and rule of law, that can play a critical role throughout the Middle East and North Africa, as well as East Asia, to support the strengthening of democratic institutions, civil society, education, and many other fields.
