Mentally Challenged Minor Girl Raped in Kashmir

Srinagar, July 17: A 13-year-old mentally and physically challenged girl was raped by a man in Indian administered Kashmir. The 30-year-old rapist has been arrested by police.

“The father of a 13-year-old- physically and mentally challenged girl alleged that she was raped by a 30-year-old man while she was alone in her house at Wanpora village in Shopian, some 100 kms South of Kashmir,” a police official said.

“A medical examination of the girl was conducted and it confirmed that she was raped. “Accordingly a case was registered. On the complaint of the girl’s father, we arrested 30-year-old Imtiyaz Ahmad Bhat, who had allegedly raped the minor girl,” he said.

“Imtiyaz, a contractor by profession, abducted the girl while she was alone in her home,” said a police officer.

The girl suffers from polio and can’t even talk properly.

The father of the victim has demanded that the accused be sentenced for life to ensure that such heinous crimes against children and women are prevented.

This is the third incident of its kind in Kashmir in recent times. Earlier, last week, a girl was allegedly gang raped by a group of youth after returning from her exams in North Kashmir. Earlier on June 1, a five-year-old girl was raped by a 14-year-old boy in central Kashmir.
