Union Home Minister P Chidambaram on Saturday instructed to the state government and police of the north eastern states to take stern action against maoists who are to destablising peace in the region.
During a day-long visit to Arunachal, Chidambaram said in a press conference in Itanagar that there will be no compromise with the maoists.
“The state government of the region should deal the rebels with a firm hand,” Chidambaram said.
However, Chidambaram has also appealed to the people of the region not to encourage maoist and other insurgent groups’ presence in the region.
Meanwhile, for the insurgency problem in Arunachal Pradesh the Union Home Minister said the Union has already sanctioned a central package to the state for modernising police forces in Tirap and Changlang districts.
Chidambaram noted that the boundary dispute between Arunachal Pradesh and Assam should be resolved the soonest possible.
“The Supreme Court has also commissioned a one-man boundary headed by Justice Tarun Chaterjee who will schedule a meeting with the chief ministers of both the states on June to tackle the issue,” he said.
Earlier, the Union Home Minister accompanied by Minister of State for Home Jitendra Singh arrived in Itanagar and attended a security review meeting with the top brass security officials and the state government officials.
