Following Israel’s Six Day War victory, from August 29 to September 1st, 1967, the leaders of thirteen Arab states gathered at a summit conference in Khartoum, Sudan. There they pledged to continue their struggle against Israel.
Influenced by Gamal Abdel Nasser, their conditions were quite specific: no peace with Israel, no negotiations with Israel, no recognition of Israel, and ‘maintenance of the rights of the Palestinian people in their nation.’
The Khartoum Declaration was the first serious warning to the Israelis that their expectation of an imminent ‘phone call’ from the Arab world might be a pipe dream. And indeed the phone call remained in the pipe, to never be made, along with a very bloody reality, not a dream.
Abbas already rejected Trump’s peace deal of the century.
The peace deal of the century has been on a procrastination mode and the postulating cable news. I am assuming that with each day passing, one part of it or another has become obsolete or due for an immediate makeover along with some new circumstances.
The Abbasites (Mahmoud Abbas-Abu Mazen right and left wing men) know what they want which is no Israel. The rest of what they want or do not want is hanging in the air, refusing to come down.
So what do the Abbasites really want?
And this is the moderate position.
1/ Gaza and a Palestinian State must be contiguous to appear as if they are one. Two states pretending to be one. But this demand is like asking Central Park in New York City to become contiguous with Long Island City, New York State.
2/ Assuming we agree to this demand, to do that, a six-mile corridor will be arranged to run from Gaza through the city of Ashdod and cutting through the center of Jerusalem onward to Bethlehem, effectively separating Northern Israel from Southern Israel. Israelis in the South and Israelis in the North will have access to either side through a 600-yard corridor with checkpoints on both sides. WOW! Really!?
3/ All Jewish cities, towns, and villages and non-Arab denizens in Judea and Samaria, AKA ‘West Bank’, will be evacuated, and homes, farms, schools, shrines, synagogues, hospitals and cemeteries, with Stars of David, will be trashed and burned with full United Nations acquiescence. Gaza is the model. Who will dare to repeat such insanity again?
After these preconditions are met, Abbas will go to Bahrain to begin negotiations.
The Trump administration’s long-awaited blueprint for Middle East peace – known as “The Deal of the Century” – will be unveiled at the conference set for June 25-26, 2019, in Bahrain.
The plan, which has been two years in the making, envisions large-scale investment and infrastructure work in the Palestinian territories but the central political elements remain mostly unknown.
The economic workshop, will not address the most contentious parts of the conflict: borders, the status of Jerusalem, Palestinian refugees, and Israel’s security.
The Trump administration has said that if the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is resolved, the conference and the announced deal will focus on economic benefits that both sides could reap from them.
The PalArabs, who severed ties with the US over a year ago, are emphatic they will not attend this conference. They were not consulted about the deal, so they say. They have repeatedly expressed fears that the White House will try to buy them off with large sums of investment in exchange for freezing their demands for an independent state. They believe the US is trying to rally support from other Arab countries to bully them into accepting a plan they see as unacceptable and unreachable, not doable.
Like before, the Arabs’ NO’ remains a NO!
