Egypt 2-0 Benin, Nigeria 3-0 Mozambique: Two More Top Teams For The QF

By David Jester, Newsblaze Soccer expert

Today it was the turn of Group C as in the African Cup of Nations as Nigeria, Benin and Mozambique all looked to qualify with Egypt already through after they won their first two games.

Egypt were up against Benin with Nigeria playing Mozambique, two easy predictions on paper but this is a cup that has proved hard to predict with many of the lesser teams overcoming their lowly status to achieve great results.

Egypt didn’t need to win their game and as Benin desperately needed the points you could be excused for thinking that Benin might have snatched some points from the Egyptians, but that was certainly not the case. Egypt kept up the top class play that saw them qualify for the Quarter Finals early and they were 2-0 up within twenty-three minutes with Al-Muhammadi and Moteab getting the goals.

Nigeria had a harder time of it against Mozambique and struggled through the first half. Chances fell to both teams and it was Nigeria who finally opened up the scoring one minute before half-time with a fine strike from Odemwingie, the forward doubled his tally just two minutes into the second half and Nigeria relaxed a little, allowing Martins to bag their third with just a few minutes left to play.

Both games ended with wins for the favorites and Egypt and Nigeria will now wait for the outcomes of the Group D games (played tomorrow) to see who they will face in the Quarter Finals.
