Slow Cooker Comfort Food Hits The Spot – Book Review

From the moment I opened this book Slow Cooker Comfort Food it has not been far from my side. I have even taken it to bed with me and read it like an old fashioned well written romance novel.

As a family of just two I struggle to find recipes for my 3 1/2 qt slow cooker that are both small enough and tasty enough to make me want to make them for dinner. And to be honest my slow cooker came out of the cupboard once the whole of last year which is a shame as this piece of kitchen equipment could almost be used every day.

This book has changed all of that for me and I knew that as soon as I read the recipe for oatmeal on page 30. Not only was the recipe so well laid out and easy to read and understand but the photo on page 31 looked so mouth watering too. Judith also let me know that it was vegan friendly, that the recipe could in fact be halved (I didn’t so we had enough for two breakfasts) but also a hint for celics suggesting the use of gluten free oatmeal. I am even thinking about what I can make and take to a Christmas party for a knitting guild. Such is the rush I have to use this book for every single meal.

I have decided to purchase a copy for Christmas for a friend with four children. And a copy may also find its way to Scotland for a friend who lives alone.

Almost every single recipe in the book has tips on how to halve the recipe, whether you could present it when entertaining and some if they are vegetarian or vegan. It even told me what okra is – something I have never seen or eaten.

My slow cooker has not been in the cupboard since I received this book. I am even thinking of purchasing a larger one just so I can make some of the breads and cakes that are included and need a pan or bowl insert in the cooker. All of a sudden this book and slow cooker have become my favourite belongings
