Miley Cyrus aka Hannah Montana has been a role model for many young teenagers. But as her racy pictures have appeared on the Internet, the 15-year-old Disney star will gain some admirers among a more mature audience.
For many teenagers who know Cyrus from the sugarcoated Disney series, the picture of their favorite actress covered only with a white sheet may be a huge shock. The photo shoot taken for the Vanity Fair magazine uncovers a new, unknown side of the young celebrity. The girly and innocent Hannah Montana is no more, with a sexy young woman posing only in underwear taking her place. In one of the pictures, Cyrus lies on a bed with her boyfriend, seemingly right before or right after what all parents hope would never happen to their daughters. At least not before they are married.
Like all teenagers who were caught doing something stupid, also Cyrus appears to be a little embarrassed about her daring pictures. “I never intended for any of this to happen, and I apologize to my fans, who I care so deeply about,” the 15-year-old actress told the New York Post. But shortly after this questionable mea culpa, Cyrus produces an excuse: “She’s so cute. She gets this puppy-dog look, and you’re like, OK,”Cyrus describes her famous photographer, Annie Leibovitz.
Vanity Fair refuses to call the photo session a mistake either. The magazine’s authorities claim that the pictures are of “artistic” quality and show the real Miley Cyrus. What is more, she was accompanied by her parents throughout all the session and if they thought the pictures were improper, they could say so. “Since the photo was taken digitally, they saw it on the shoot, and everyone thought it was a beautiful and natural portrait of Miley,” Vanity Fair said.
The Disney Channel which created the Hannah Montana series and turned Cyrus into a first-class celebrity, lambasted Vanity Fair. For years Disney was a brand that parents could trust as it promoted violence and sex free family movies like High School Musical. Now with semi nude pictures of their top star available for everyone, the channel fears the special relationship it has cultivated for a long time might have been breached. “Unfortunately, as the article suggests, a situation was created to deliberately manipulate a 15-year-old in order to sell magazines,” a Disney representative told “Entertainment Tonight.”
Miley Cyrus is sorry for what she did. But so are dozens of other immature celebrities who have turned their lives into an endless comedy of mistakes. Millions of parents whose kids throng at television screens to watch another episode of Hannah Montana hoped their favorite star would avoid the fate of Britney Spears and Lindsey Lohan. Let’s believe she has not been misjudged and we don’t see Hannah Montana naked again.
