UT to hold Chandigarh Marathon-Run

The Chandigarh Administration is all set to add another feather to its cap by organizing its first Chandigarh Marathon-Run for the spirit of Chandigarh on January 31, 2010. The first Chandigarh Marathon of which the route plans are being finalized, modalities being discussed has started receiving confirmation from various bureaucrats, celebrities, police personnel etc. The confirmations from many world-class foreign athletes have also been received.

A meeting for chalking out the modalities for the 1st Chandigarh Marathon was held recently under the chairmanship of UT Home Secretary, Mr. Ram Niwas. It was disclosed in the meeting that the first Chandigarh Marathon promises certificate for every participant, medal for every finisher, T-shirts for around 2000 participants. Along with it the Marathon will give every single participant an opportunity to feel like a winner.

The Marathon is being organized in 3 parts, 5 km run, Half Marathon and the full 42 km Marathon. The participation for the school students has been kept free where as, for others a nominal registration fee of Rs. 100 will be charged. Arrangements for refreshments between the run and at the finish point are being made.

The registration forms for the Marathon will be available at Lake Club, Information Center, Sector 17 Plaza, CGA Gym and also at some branches of ICICI Bank in Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula. The registration could be done online too. The last date for the registration is January 20, 2010. All safety measures will be taken for conducting the event smoothly. A thorough medical examination will be done of all the participants as per the stipulated rules and regulations. The Administration is also exploring possibility of group insurance of the participants.

A two day Marathon Expo at Chandigarh Golf Academy would be organized from January 29 and 30, 2010.
