Two NSCN Militants Killed, Army Officer Injured in Gun Battle

Two hardcore NSCN (IM) cadres were killed and an army official injured in gun battle in Arunachal Pradesh’s Tirap district on Wednesday night, officials said on Thursday.

Security forces recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition from the encounter area.

Following a tip-off, a team of Assam Rifles launched operation at Wasatong area in Tirap district of Arunachal Pradesh along Assam border on Wednesday night, where a militant group was hiding.

“Based on intelligence report, when the troops reached the area, the eigh-member militant group started firing on security personnel and bullets were exchanged,” an Assam Rifles official said.

Two hardcore cadres of the naga militant group were killed on the spot and an army official was also injured during the gun battle.

“Others militants of the group managed to flee from the encounter site with the help of darkness,” the official said.

The slain militants are yet to be identified.

Security forces recovered one M-16 rifle, one AK-47 rifle, three hand grenades, four kilograms RDX, 10 no detonator, several rounds of ammunition in possession of the slain militants.

Top army officials and special commando team rushed to the area and launched an operation against the naga militant.
