Two Hardcore NDFB Militants Killed in Assam Encounter: 7 Kuki Militants Nabbed

Two hardcore militants of the anti-talk faction group of National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) were killed in a gunfight with security forces along Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border on Wednesday night, officials said.

According to report, a team of Assam police commando force launched an operation at Torabari area near Bhalukpung in Sonitpur district along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border on Wednesday night around 1:30 am, where seven militants of the outfit group were hiding.

Following a tip-off, the police commando team launched an operation in the area, where a militant group was hiding. “When our boys reached the remote area, the militants started firing and forced us to exchange bullets, where two militants were killed,” Sonitpur district SP Arbind Kalita said.

During the gun battle, two security personnel were injured and they were admitted at Tezpur civil hospital.

Other militants of the group had managed to flee from the area with the help of darkness.

Top police and army officials rushed to the remote area and launched an operation to nab the fled militants.

Security forces recovered two pistols, one Chinese made hand grenade, several rounds ammunition in possession of the slain militant duo.

One of the slain militants was identified as Gauranga, who was the main accused of the murder case of Tea planter Adilur Rahman.

Adilur Rahman was killed by the anti-talk faction group of NDFB in Sonitpur district on November 13, 2012.

In a separate incident, security forces nabbed seven Kuki militants in Karbi Anglong district on Wednesday night, police said.

Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of police and army launched an operation at Saijang hills near Dilai area under Bokajan sub-division of Karbi Anglong district and nabbed the KRA militants.

Security forces recovered one AK-47 rifle, one hand grenade, 25 rounds live ammunition, explosives in their possession.
