Telangana Issue Sparks Violence in Assam

Telangana issue turned violent in Assam on Wednesday as one protester was killed and 20 others were injured in a police firing incident in Karbi Anglong district.

The reports say the protesters were demanding a separate Karbi Anglong state and set ablaze several vehicles, government offices and vandalized several houses of MLA’s, Executive Members of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC).

The district administration has imposed an indefinite curfew in the hilly district after the violence.

According to report, over 1000 protesters demanded a separate Karbi Anglong state where roads of Diphu town in the district had set ablaze several government vehicles, government offices and vandalized offices of KAAC.

The agitators also set fire three public buses and a congress office.

“For controlling the situation, police faced the agitators, but it turned to be more violent,” an official of Karbi Anglong district police said.

Later, the mob and the violence forced the police to fire.

At least 20 protesters were injured in a police firing incident.

An injured protester succumbed to his injuries in hospital.

As the situation became out of control, the district administration imposed indefinite curfew in the district and called the army to control the law and order situation.

Also, Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said he will not support dividing Assam.

Meanwhile, Chief Executive Member of KAAC Jairam Engleng on Wednesday has called an all party, organization meeting for the uncontrolled situation in the hilly district.
