Prominent Activist Challenges Verdict of Guwahati Molestation Case

Assam RTI activist and leader of Krishok Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS), Akhil Gogoi will file a Public Interest Litigation (PIL), challenging the verdict in a Guwahati molestation case.

Expressing his unhappiness over the verdict of the molestation case by Kamrup district Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) on December 7, convicting 11 of the 16 accused in the case and acquitting four of them, the RTI activist demanded a CBI inquiry in the case.

During a press conference held in Guwahati on Thursday, Akhil Gogoi said he was not happy in the verdict of the molestation case and will file a PIL in the Gauhati High Court challenging the verdict.

“The whole investigation of the case was politically influenced to safeguard the Gaurav Jyoti Neog, who worked as a journalist of a local news channel, News Live,” Akhil Gogoi said.

He adds that some vital evidence had been destroyed by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Assam police and forensic laboratory and which was pointed out in the verdict.

Alleging the investigating officer and SIT were involved, Gogoi said the whole team had intentionally misguided the court during the investigation and trial.

Gogoi had demanded more probing on both the case and the CBI inquiry.
