Nine Labourers Kidnapped in Assam

Guwahati, 6 April: Nine labourers were kidnapped by suspected

Karbi People’s Liberation Tigers (KPLT) from a construction site in Karbi Anglong district of Assam on Thursday night, police said.

“27 labourers had been working in a construction government hospital building at Rongbong Ghat controlled by Santipur police station in the hills district. On Thursday night, an armed group assaulted the labourers and took away nine of them,” a police official said.

A joint team of Assam Police and army led by Karbi Anglong district SP BB Chetry rushed to the spot and search operation was launched to trace the abducted labourers.

Security forces also recovered arms and ammunition, and arrested two women at Diphu on Friday, a police source said.

The Karbi groups seek self-rule and self-determination for the Karbi people. The KPLT have been active in the past week. Less than a week ago, a KPLT Militant was killed In Assam, and today, a member of Karbi People’s Liberation Tigers (KPLT) was arrested by security forces in the Baithalangsoo area Karbi Anglong district.
