Police Arrest Protesting Journalists in Guwahati

Assam police on Monday arrested more than 50 journalists from different media houses of print and electronic media who protested against the alleged physical beating of a woman journalist by Guwahati police.

Police arrested the journalists when they staged a protest in front of Dispur capital secretariat.

“We have demanded to arrest the culprits who allegedly assaulted a woman journalist form a local electronic media company at Latasil police station. But the state government would not take any action so far,” Pranay Bordoloi, Managing Editor of Dy-365 said.

“The Tarun Gogoi-led state government has totally failed to protect the common people in Assam,” Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said.

Several organisations including AASU and KMSS protested against the state government action for arresting the journalists.

Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi ordered an Additional Chief Secretary level probe into the alleged attack by police officials on the female journalist.
