Guwahati, December 27: The Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has termed the incident at the Bordumsa tea estate as “unfortunate”, where angry tea labourers were burnt alive by their owner on Wednesday.
“The incident was unfortunate and we are investigating it,” the Assam CM said.
“Top police officials rushed to the area and started the investigation. The security at the tea garden area also has been strengthened,” Gogoi said.
Also, at least five people were apprehended by the police on Thursday in connection with the incident.
Meanwhile, a police source said that the maoist hand in instigating the tea labourers who were burnt, two people including a tea garden owner at Bordumsa in Tinsukia district on Wednesday.
“Maoist have been trying to establish their bases in Upper Assam and Arunachal Pradesh,” the source said.
Several organizations of the state condemned the incident and demanded a high level inquiry and take stern action against the culprits.
