Three Hardcore KPLT Militants Held in Assam

Security forces on Sunday apprehended three hardcore militants of Karbi Peoples Liberation Tiger (KPLT) including the group’s Finance Secretary and Auditor, in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district, officials said.

Following a tip-off, army Red Horn division and police jointly launched an operation in Karbirongsope village under Hamren subdivision in the hill district and captured the militants.

A defence spokesman based in Guwahati said security forces recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition at the location.

The captured militants were identified as Finance Secretary of the outfit, Birton Timung, alias Rock, Auditor Hemai Singh Kro alias Mysing and cadre Langtuk Ronghang.

Security forces recovered a AK series rifle, two pistols with assorted ammunition, and some incriminating stores.

Police have also averted major incidents in the BTAD area when they recovered 18.2 kgs of RDX in the Kokrajhar district on Sunday.

Police had launched operation in the Serfangguri area of the district and recovered the huge quantity of explosives from a house. The owner of the house, named Ramen Rabha was also arrested.

“Suspected NDFB(S) militants had planned major explosions in the BTAD area by using the explosive,” a top police official said.
