The Election Commission of India will monitor and check the illegal arms, distribution of money and other unlawful activities as formed flying squads during the assembly polls in Meghalaya, Nagaland and Tripura, which will be held next month, officials said.
In Agartala, an official of Election Commission of India (ECI) said on Thursday the flying squads will monitor and check the unlawful activities during the assembly constituency.
“In each assembly constituency, the district magistrates will head the flying squad to check and report illegal arms, distribution of money, liquor and other unlawful activities,” the official said.
In addtion, the police and micro observers will be appointed by ECI in each district and assembly constituency to monitor the expenditure of candidates and any violations of code of conduct of Election Commission,” an ECI official said.
The observers names, addresses and telephone numbers that will be published in local newspapers in which people can submit any grievances.
The ECI had already directed all district magistrates of the three poll-bound states for fire arm owners to deposit their weapons by 31 January.
The assembly poll in Tripura will be held on February 14, while Meghalaya and Nagaland will take place on February 23.
The votes will be counted of the three states on February 28.
