Guwahati, January 2: Ruling Congress has faced a problem with its deprived workers ahead of the Panchayat poll in the state which will be held in three phases beginning January 30.
The deprived Congress workers of Hajo, Lakhimpur, Tezpur, Dhemaji, Chabua came out in defiance of the party leadership in the selection of the party candidate list in the poll on Wednesday.
Thousands of workers of the party gathered at the Rajiv Bhawan events in Guwahati, Lakhimpur, Dhemaji, Chabua and alleged money transactions in preparing the list.
In Lakhimpur, the rebel party workers burnt the effigy of the Union minister and MP of Lakhimpur Rani Narah.
In Tezpur, a section of Congress workers reportedly assaulted a veteran party leader Hiranya Bora.
Also, the candidates of Congress, Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), CPI filed their nominations on Wednesday in the last day of nomination filling for the first phase poll, which will be held on January 30.
The final list of candidates of the first phase poll will be released by the election authority on January 8.
The first phase of Panchayat poll will be held in eight districts of the state.
The second and third phase poll will be held on February 6 and February 12.
The counting of the poll will be declared on February 14 and 15.
Approximately 1,275,6804 voters will exercise their franchise across 26,844 constituencies, out of which 420 are Zila Parishad constituencies, 2,202 are Anchalik Panchayat constituencies, 2,202 are Village Panchayat president constituencies and 22,020 Village Panchayat member constituencies.
The votes will be cast in 22,869 polling stations across the state.
