2 ULFA Cadres Arrested, Explosive Recovered Along Assam-Meghalaya

Guwahati city police on Sunday busted an illegal bomb making racket and recovered a huge quantity of explosives and arrested two cadres of the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) at the Assam-Meghalaya border, police said on Monday.

“Based on our intelligence report, we launched a search operation at Agama area near Rongjuli in the Goalpara district along Assam-Meghalaya border on Sunday night and busted an illegal bomb making racket,” Guwahati City police SP (Operation) Ranjan Bhuyan said.

Police recovered 4 kilograms explosives, detonator and arrested two ULFA cadres, identified as Jyotisaran Boro and Bekingson Marak.

“We suspect, the militants planned to trigger and explosion in Guwahati city,” a police official said.

The Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) and ULFA is active in the Goalpara district. They set up few camps along the border areas.
