17 Militants Arrested in Assam

17 Cadres, Linkmen Of Different Outfits Apprehended In Assam

Security forces arrested seventeen cadres and linkmen of different outfit groups including two hardcore NDFB(S) militants throughout Assam on Sunday, officials said.

14 cadres and linkmen of Rabha National Liberation Army (RNLA) were arrested by security forces in the Goalpara district for their alleged involvement in planting an IED on a railway track near Dudhnoi in the lower Assam district.

Goalpara district ASP Rosie Kalita said the RNLA cadres and linkmen were arrested in Bhogdabi, Guria and Zia areas under Krishnai police station during the joint operation launched by the local Police and army.

Security forces also arrested two hardcore NDFB(S) militants in Kokrajhar district. They also recovered arms and ammunition from that location.

The arrested Kokrajhar militants were identified as Sumkwr Mushahary alias Sugum and Swmkwr Basumutary.

“Sugum is a 39th batch trained terrorist of the outfit group and was trained in Myanmar from March 2013 to April 2013. He was operating the Kokrajhar platoon of NDFB(S) under the platoon commander B Jwablang, who was killed in an encounter with security forces on January 10. He was also involved in the snatching of weapons from Ecological Battalion in October 2014. Both terrorists also suspected to be involved in the carnage of tribal people in December 2014,” defence spokesman based in Guwahati Suneet Newton said.

Security forces recovered two 7.65mm pistols plus four rounds of live ammunition and war-like stores from the two men.

In Sonitpur district, police arrested an All Adivasi National Liberation Army (AANLA) militant.

“Based on intelligence input, police had launched an operation at Batachipur area under Dhekiajuli police station along the inter state border with Arunachal Pradesh and nabbed the militant identified as Surya Nayak alias Rocky,” Sonitpur district SP Sanyukta Parashar said.

The Police said they recovered a pistol, ammunition and two mobile handsets from Surya Nayak.
