‘Gibbs Had Pure Hatred For All Afghanis’ – Jeremy N. Morlock

Spec. Jeremy N. Morlock, 22, member of the 5th Stryker Combat Brigade, videotaped and wrote statements to Army investigators that showed his part in killings, which took place in Kandahar province between January and May.

Morlock assigned responsibility to his squad’s staff sergeant, Calvin R. Gibbs, who encouraged the idea within their unit to kill innocent Afghans for sport.

“Gibbs had pure hatred for all Afghanis and constantly referred to them as savages,” Morlock explained in one statement, details were first reported by the Associated Press.

Morlock, Gibbs and three other U.S. soldiers have been charged with murdering three Afghan civilians.

Anderson D. Wagner, special agent with the Army’s Criminal Investigation Command, testified at the hearing that Morlock’s statements were backed up by other members of his unit and he did not appear unduly influenced by medication. Morlock’s defense attorney wants his client’s statements thrown out, argued that Morlock was under heavy medication when he talked to Army investigators in May.
