The citizens of Kuwait today celebrated their National Day.
Kuwait celebrated its 51st anniversary of independence, and the 21st anniversary of Kuwait liberation this 25th February.
US Secretary of State, Hillary Rodham Clinton, speaking in Washington, DC, extended the congratulations of President Obama and the people of the United States, to the people of Kuwait on their National Day.
Ms. Clinton says the United States shares a long history of friendship and cooperation with Kuwait, rooted in shared values, democratic traditions and institutions and built on a foundation of respect for human dignity and the pursuit of a more peaceful and prosperous world.
She cites that recent parliamentary elections are a testament to Kuwait’s democratic traditions and proud history.
“As you celebrate this special day and reflect on all that you have accomplished, know that the United States is a partner and friend. Best wishes for a year of peace, prosperity, and happiness.” -Ms. Clinton
The U.S.-Kuwaiti strategic partnership strengthened again after Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait. The United States led the UN Security Council demands that Iraq withdraw from Kuwait and its authorization of the use of force to remove Iraqi forces from the occupied country.
The United States also played a vital role in the development of the multinational military operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm that liberated the country.
The U.S.-Kuwaiti relationship has remained strong and robust in the post-Gulf War period.
