Luxembourg Celebrates Its Independence Day

The citizens of Luxembourg today celebrated their Independence Day.

Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton today sent best wishes to the people of Luxembourg. She also greeted Grand Duke Henri as he celebrates his birthday today.

“This is an opportunity to honor Luxembourg’s rich history and the many contributions of the Luxembourg people to the world.” -Ms. Clinton

Ms. Clinton stressed that Luxembourg has demonstrated a tireless commitment to international institutions. She said Luxembourg is a founding member of NATO, the United Nations, and the European Union. She added that Luxembourg is a model for global cooperation.

She highlighted that both United States and Luxembourg share a long history of partnership, promoting peace and prosperity around the globe. She emphasized that both countries continue this work today fighting for human rights, promoting democracy and safeguarding freedoms.

“As you celebrate this special day, know that the United States is committed to this important relationship, and we stand with all Luxembourgers around the world as a partner and friend.” -Ms. Clinton
