The citizens of Estonia today celebrated the 94th anniversary of their independence.
The Estonian Declaration of Independence was issued in Parnu on 23 February and in Tallinn on 24 February 1918, according to wikipedia.
US Secretary of State, Hillary Rodham Clinton, speaking in Washington, DC, extended the congratulations of President Obama and the people of the United States, to the people of Estonia on their National Day.
Ms. Clinton states that through hard work, innovation, and a pursuit of strong democratic ideals, enhanced security and greater cooperation, Estonia has emerged as an example to the region and the world.
She cites that Estonia’s integration of technology into public and private partnerships demonstrates the endless possibilities that technology can have when harnessed to benefit societies.
She underlines that Estonia an invaluable ally in NATO, and the United States appreciates Estonia’s continuing commitment to our shared mission in Afghanistan.
“As you celebrate this special day, know that the United States stands with you as a partner, ally, and friend as we work together towards a bright and prosperous future for all our people.” -Ms. Clinton
US-Estonia relations has been constant and strong since Estonia first became independent. The United States and Estonia are strong allies and partners. Estonia was recognized by the United State on July 28, 1922.
Since the restoration of independence in 1991, Estonia has met the challenge of establishing a fully functional, stable, and modern state.
