Citizens of Belgium Celebrate Their National Day

The citizens of Belgium today celebrated their national day.

US Secretary of State, Hillary Rodham Clinton, speaking in Washington, DC, extended the congratulations of President Obama and the people of the United States, to the people of Belgium on their National Day.

Ms. Clinton highlighted that the historic friendship and enduring alliance between United States and Belgium is built on shared values and mutual interests.

She stressed that Belgium’s commitment to democracy and the ideals of liberty and equality has positively influenced countries around the world. She added that as a founding member of NATO and the European Union, Belgium has played an integral role in the institutions that define U.S. relations with Europe.
