Royal engagement photographer Alexi Lubomirski has been chosen as the official wedding photographer for the upcoming royal wedding between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. Kensington Palace announced the decision this morning.
Lubomirski, a well-known portrait photographer, took the couple’s engagement photos at Frogmore House at Windsor in November. The couple was so pleased with the photos that they have chosen Lubomirski to capture their wedding day.
Prior to this career-changing gig, the photographer worked in celebrity and fashion photography, spending four years working as an assistant to Mario Testino.
The New York-based photographer is known for his artistic and highly stylized work. Markle has long been a fan of Lubomirski, whose client list includes Vogue.
“I could not be more thrilled or honored to photograph this historic occasion,” Lubomirski said. “Having taken Prince Harry and Ms. Markle’s engagement photos, it brings me such joy to be able to witness again, the next chapter in this wonderful love story.”
Lubomirski reportedly said the engagement shoot was “one of the easiest, most joyful jobs because they were so deliciously in love.”
“Pre-wedding sessions are requested by couples who want to show their engagement pictures on their wedding day, on wedding invitations or just as a beautiful record of their engagement period,” says Victor Guidini, a London wedding photographer.
Born in England, Lubomirski moved to Botswana with his parents at the age of eight. His father gave him his first camera at the age of 11, and his interest in photography developed while he traveled in Peru during a gap year in college.
Lubomirski may be the official photographer for the royal wedding, but there will be hundreds more at the event looking to capture the couple’s big day according to ePub Zone.
Elle recently published an article in which Chris Jackson, Getty’s royal photographer, describes what it’s like to photograph the royal family.
Jackson photographed Prince Harry in Africa, Princess Charlotte’s christening, Prince George’s first day of school and Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding day. Jackson will also be there to photograph Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding.
Jackson said his goal at Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding was to capture the “just married” shot. His job was to capture the couple walking onto the steps of Westminster Abbey.
The photographer was standing on the Crimea War memorial, 30 feet from the Abbey’s entrance. He captured other arrivals and departures as well, but the prized shot was the full-length capture of the royal couple after saying “I do.”
“Once I’d taken the picture, the images were whizzed to the back of my camera, then to the editors who did a quick Photoshop, and then it was off around the world within minutes,” Jackson told Elle. “It was a huge sense of relief when I looked in the back of the camera and saw I hadn’t buggered it up!”
As for Prince Harry and Megan Markle’s big day, Jackson says the details haven’t been finalized as to how the wedding will be photographed.
“Again, it will be a team effort because you can’t cover everything as a single person,” he said. “You’re one cog in a team and we’ll have team meetings beforehand to discuss how we’re going to cover things and the best possible way of getting a rounded coverage.”
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are set to tie the knot on May 19, 2018.
