US Imposes Export Restrictions on Russia

Russia whacked by sanctions

With its unwillingness to stop tensions that are engulfing Ukraine, United States today hammered Russia with export restrictions.

In a press statement in Washington DC, US Department Spokesperson Jen Psaki announced that the United States is implementing additional restrictive measures on defense exports to Russia.

One of the restrictions includes export restrictions on technologies and services regulated under the U.S. Munitions List (USML).

Ms. Psaki pointed out that the State Department’s Directorate of Defense Trade Controls (DDTC) will deny pending applications for export or re-export of any high technology defense articles or services regulated under the U.S. Munitions List to Russia or occupied Crimea that contribute to Russia’s military capabilities.

“In addition, the Department is taking actions to revoke any existing export licenses which meet these conditions.” – Ms. Psaki

Ms. Psaki reiterated that the United States will continue to adjust its export licensing policies toward Russia, as warranted by Russia’s actions in Ukraine.

What Is At stake With Russia’s Aggression In Ukraine?

The US has underlined that Russia needs to think very carefully about the choice that it is making.

The US imposed visa bans, there are asset freezes, and there is trade and investment isolation.

In addition, Psaki said American businesses may well want to think twice about whether they want to do business with a country that behaves like this.

The US said every one of its allies and friends are determined to stay united and to make clear there is a price attached to Russia’s kind of behavior.
