23rd Day of Denying Fuel, Food and Medicine to Camp Liberty By Maliki Forces

Nouri al Maliki may not be the Prime Minister of Iraq now, on Tuesday and Wednesday, September 2 and 3, forces Maliki controls again prevented entry of fuel and food into Camp Liberty.

It is now 23 days since Maliki first ratcheted up the inhuman and criminal blockade of Camp Liberty at the behest of the Iranian regime.

The Government of Iraq has disrupted the electricity to Camp Liberty, as well as all of the infrastructure and public services, by withholding fuel. This has forced the residents to live in the 48 degrees centigrade heat in metal containers with no air-conditioners.

A number of residents have suffered heat stroke and they are existing in very dire conditions.

It is summer in Iraq now and it gets very hot there. The temperature is 48 degrees and it can reach 52 degrees. The residents of Camp Liberty are dependent on electricity to run their infrastructure. Depriving Camp Liberty residents of fuel is an anti-human crime, and the perpetrators of that crime must be prosecuted.

The Iranian Resistance called on the United Nations and the U.S. government to take immediate measures toward stopping this anti-human siege. The UN and the US have repeatedly and in writing committed themselves to the safety and security of the residents.

Writing may be powerful, but when governments and international organizations write but do nothing, and when media does not report and no action is taken, injustice is allowed to continue. The US and UN must take action to allow trucks of food, fuel and other logistical needs to enter the camp on a normal and daily basis.
