Although the Somali government said this week that it will close its embassies in Key western courtiers due to lack of finance, Somali president Sheik Sharif Sheik Ahmed has appointed his special envoy to the United States, according to a presidential statement issued Sunday.
“The appointment of Mr. Abokar Abdow Arman signals the importance of rebuilding and maintaining a bilateral relationship based on mutual interest between Somalia and the United States of America” aid the presidential statement of which Newsblaze.com obtained a copy.
The statement also said that this new development will further strengthen the already good political ties between the two friendly countries (Somalia and the United States).
The new Somali envoy to the US, Mr. Arman, 49, is a political activist and a prolific writer whose articles have been widely published in international media outlets. Mr. Arman has lived in the US for the past 30 years. A well-known community activist, Mr. Arman sat on many boards and served on many committees. Over the years, Mr. Arman has played a vital role in cultivating relationships and building bridges of understanding among America’s diverse communities; especially, between Muslims and people of other faiths.
Despite the brutal evidence of Black Hawk down in Somalia in 1993 when 18 US soldiers were dragged in the streets of Mogadishu, the US government which is the biggest donor nation to Somalia is still playing a crucial role in scoring peace and stability in Somalia which has been without an effective central government for nearly two decades.
Since 1991, there were nearly 15 internationally-backed attempts aimed at creating a functioning government which controls the whole country, but all efforts ended up in smoke with the International community trying to protect the current UN-backed TFG from destroying, as the Aqaeda proxy Islamist rebels of Somalia are trying to topple it.
