Citizens of Zambia Celebrate Their National Day

The citizens of Zambia today celebrated their 47th anniversary of independence.

Zambia is one of the most highly-urbanized countries in sub-Saharan Africa. Most rural Zambians are subsistence farmers, according to Wikipedia.

She cited that in Zambia’s recent electoral process, the people of Zambia demonstrated a commitment to peace and democratic transition, inaugurating Zambia’s fifth president since independence. She said the United States looks forward to working together in even more ways as they pursue their shared goals.

“As you celebrate this special day with family, friends and loved ones, know that the United States stands with you as a partner and friend. Congratulations and best wishes on a year of peace, prosperity, and opportunity.” -Ms. Clinton

Zambia was named by the World Bank in 2010 as one of the world’s fastest economically reforming countries.
