World Cup: Holland 2-0 Denmark, Comical Own Goal Sinks Danish Hopes

The Netherlands have been picked as one of the Teams to Watch for this World Cup and they got their campaign underway with an early kickoff against Denmark on Day 4.

Top winger Robben sat this one out but Holland still steered themselves to a 2-0 victory (to complete a Double predicted in the Newsblaze predictions)

Denmark looked strong in the first half and it appeared that we could have an upset on our hands, but just sixty-seconds into the second forty-five Poulson headed the ball into his own net in comical fashion to gift the Dutch the lead. The goal, along with Robert Greens mistake, will surely find its way onto the blooper reels.

Holland then began to play some stylish football but didn’t get the second until five minutes from time when Kuyt tapped in after an effort from Elia – who looked very promising after coming on as a substitute – rebounded off the post. Poulson slightly redeemed himself towards the end of the game when he skillfully cleared the ball off the line, but his side will now need to fight against Cameroon and Japan to qualify from this group.
