World Cup: Chile 1-0 Switzerland, The Cards Stack-Up In Vital Game

Switzerland and Chile both had winning starts to the World Cup and today they met for their second game, with a lot at stake for both.

There have been a number of game changing cards over these last few days and today was no different when Behrami saw red for Switzerland after only thirty-one minutes. His dismissal opened the doors for Chile who eventually stepped through.

Despite the early red it wasn’t until the seventy-fifth minute that Chile took the lead when Gonzalez nodded in at the far post. As the clock ticked on and the game drew to a close both sides opened up, Chile came closing to scoring a second on multiple occasions and the Swiss could, and should, have equalized with just a couple of minutes left on the clock when Derdiyok missed from twelve yards.

The game was overshadowed by a trigger happy referee who dished out 9 yellow cards and 1 red, but it’s a huge result for Chile who look certain to qualify.
