Wigan Shock The Gunners and End Their Title Hopes With Three Late Goals

After watching local rivals Tottenham get one over on Chelsea and Manchester United scrape a win against Manchester City, Arsenal stepped up today to see if they could take some points of their own to push for a Title challenge.

Away to relegation battlers Wigan the game looked easy on paper and Arsenal soon took that paper onto the pitch when Wallcott put them in the lead after bursting through the defense and slipping the ball past Kirkland.

Silvestre added a second for Arsenal just after the break as Wigan looked deflated. The Lactics did have some chances of their own but at 2-0 down against Arsenal it looked highly unlikely that they would pull anything out of the game.

They shorted those odds with ten minutes to go though when Watson slotted one in to push the game to 2-1. Bramble then took advantage of some poor handling by Fabianski following a corner and the defender headed in a shock second as Wigan equalized. Still on a high the home side pushed on and in stoppage time N’Zogbia beat three Arsenal defenders before driving in a left footed screamer from over twenty yards. The rattle of the ball against the post as it spun into the net was drowned out by twenty thousand screaming Wigan fans who celebrated a fantastic three points which will surely see them avoid relegation this season; whilst Arsenal are no longer in the Title race.

A great game for the neutrals, the Wigan fans and the In-Play punters who won and lost thousands in minutes, a very busy and thrilling start to the day.
