Somalia prepares to welcome three of Africa’s most senior football legends; Jay-Jay Okocha, {Nigeria} Emmanuel Adebayor {Togo} and Samuel Eto’e {Cameroon} to show the world the country is no longer a no-go area, as Somalia hopes to play its home games in Mogadishu, Minister for Youth and Sport, Mohamed Abdulkadir Ali, announced in a press briefing at Somali Football Federation headquarters on Sunday.
They will arrive in the country on May 27 2025.
“The visit of the trio under the theme of ‘The legendary Peace Tour’ will mark a major milestone in our recent history and will hopefully break the barriers and show the outside world that Somalia has achieved new heights” Somali minister for youth and sports, Mohamed Abdulkadir Ali, said as he sat next to Somali FA president, Ali Abdi Mohamed.
“There are several preconditions in place that Somalia must fulfil before being allowed to host its home games in the country, so the legendry peace tour will pave the way for a process that will finally see Somalia host its home games in Mogadishu. The ministry I lead and Somali Football Federation are jointly working on that” the minister divulged.
A welcome festival will take place at Eng. Yarisow Stadium in Mogadishu at 12pm on May 27 and then the legends will tour SFF Headquarters to see how the day-to-day activities of the federation are carried out.
Friendly Peace Tour Match
The three African Football Legends will join Somali parliament members, government ministers and former Somali Internationals to play a friendly football match at Mogadishu Stadium in the afternoon of the 27th of May 2025. “The match is to encourage peace and football development in Somalia.” The president of Somali Football Federation, Ali Abdi Mohamed, said adding that Somali Prime minister, Hamza Abdi Barre will kick the first ball of the history friendly match.
The legends are scheduled to visit the presidential palace where they will meet, the president of the country, Dr. Hassan Sheik Mohamud, according to the organizing body for the Legendry Peace Tour.
