A Roundup of Tuesdays Premiership & Championship Games

Tonight in the Premiership Chelsea missed out on a great chance to cement their place at the top of the table. They were playing away to Hull and fully expected to win the game. Hull City however had plans of their own and they put them in place on the half hour mark when Mouyokolo opened the scoring with a close range header.

Didier Drogba just arrived back from the African Nations Cup – where he had played for an unsuccessful Ivory Coast – and the powerful striker was back in form for his club side, grabbing the equalizer here just before half-time. Chelsea tried to fight their way into the lead in this game but Hull held them off well and the game finished 1-1.

That was the only Premiership game to be played today but there was action, and plenty of goals, in the Championship.

Preston hosted Barnsley in what looked like a tough game on paper but the final result said otherwise. De Silva opened the scoring for Barnsley on eight minutes before Welbeck equalized for Preston with twenty-seven minutes played. Hart then put the ball in his own net to give the away side the lead again before Barnsley clean up in the second half, with goals coming from Gray and Rodriguez as Barnsley won 1-4.

Also looking like a tough game on paper was Watford and Sheffield United. Cleverley got things going with a goal just before half-time before teammates Helguson and Cowie both found themselves on the scoresheet in the second half as Watford made it look easy, beating Sheffield United 3-0.
