It is amusing to watch the evening news. Liberals wave their arms hysterically and throw words around like ‘racist,’ intolerant’ and ‘extreme.’ They hate Donald Trump and find nothing good about a robust economy, low unemployment or the fact America is not involved in some full-scale war.
Nevertheless, while they spend 24/7 ranting about the man, underneath the radar, a new America is emerging. Far from the day’s headlines, Trump is reshaping the federal judiciary for generations to come.
The far-left has opposed President Donald Trump’s policy changes on asylum seekers, stood in the way of his travel ban and even blocked his effort to defund sanctuary cities. Well, the far-left’s propensity to seek “their” justice in the higher courts is now going to get rougher.
The liberal’s traditional haven is the ultra-liberal 9th Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco. For decades the liberal judges presiding there have legislated from the bench often ignoring the Constitution.
That is rapidly coming to an end.
The president continues his record-setting pace of filling vacancies on the federal bench. Yes, in doing so he is leaving a lasting imprint on American jurisprudence for years to come.
Now Trump is ready to fill two vacant seats in California on, you guessed it, the 9th Circuit Court, despite objections of the state’s two Democratic senators. Yes, Senators Dianne Feinstein and Kamala Harris are not happy campers.
They have voiced their repeated opposition to nominees Daniel Collins and Kenneth Lee. They’d like to withhold their approval, but Trump could care less. One big reason is California’s ultra-liberal one-party rule. Their unofficial senatorial veto means absolutely nothing to him personally or politically.
9th Circuit Nominees
Meanwhile, Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham (R-SC) is moving forward with a confirmation hearing for both men. They both lack the so-called “blue slips” that traditionally are provided by the host state senators.
Ignoring The Blue Slip
Not this time, and in California’s case, not ever while Trump is president. The 100-year-old Senate tradition allows a senator from that state to fill out a form, printed on blue paper, to indicate approval or opposition to a nominee.
Usually, the chairman of the Judiciary Committee, regardless of party, would insist on receiving the “blue slip” approval of a state’s senators before proceeding with a confirmation hearing. Again, not this time around.
From the likes of Feinstein and Harris through Brown and Newsome, Trump could care less what they think. No matter what he does, they will oppose him. He has no chance of receiving California’s electoral votes the next election, so to hell with them. It is his priority to bring a more conservative look to the 9th Circuit that has languished as the last vestige of liberal thought for over 50 years.
