Tulsi Gabbard, Director of National Intelligence
The U.S. Senate confirmed Tulsi Gabbard as the Director of National Intelligence (DNI) in a 52-48 vote on February 12. She was sworn in later that day at the Oval Office by Pam Bondi.
Gabbard, a former U.S. representative and military veteran, now oversees the nation’s intelligence agencies. Her confirmation marks a significant shift, as she has been an outspoken critic of establishment policies in both parties.
Modi-Gabbard Meeting in Washington
In her first major engagement as DNI, Gabbard met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Washington, D.C. The two leaders discussed strengthening U.S.-India intelligence cooperation, with a focus on counter-terrorism, cybersecurity, and emerging threats.
Modi and Gabbard also addressed key areas of strategic concern, including tensions over Khalistan separatist movements and recent U.S. indictments related to India. Their discussions reaffirmed a shared commitment to a stable, rules-based international order.
The meeting comes as the United States and India seek to deepen security collaboration amid rising global threats. Gabbard’s appointment is seen by some as a challenge to the “deep state,” with supporters arguing that she will bring greater transparency to U.S. intelligence operations.
President Trump and Prime Minister Modi are expected to hold a joint press conference following further discussions.
