Eastern Michigan University to Host 2012 Polish-American Heritage Day

YPSILANTI- On Saturday, February 11, 2012 Eastern Michigan University will be hosting Polish-American Heritage Day along with their scheduled basketball doubleheader. The women will take on Kent State at 2:00 p.m. and the men host perennial Mid-American Conference power Ohio University at 4:30 p.m.

Paulina Kowalczyk, the newly crowned Miss Polonia USU2012 is helping to promote Polish-American Heritage Day at Eastern Michigan University on February 11, 2012 featuring a College Basketball Double-Header at the Convocation Center in Ypsilanti, MI. The PSA will run on ESPN, ESPNU, Fox Sports and the THIS Movie Network. The games will also be podcast to Poland. The television PSA was produced by John Rice.

The EMU ladies boast high scoring guard Tavelyn James, an All-America candidate, while the men’s team features Polish National Kamil Janton.

The afternoon will be highlighted with a Polish art show, educational and historical exhibits, and Polish dance, music and food items. Children’s activities will be in abundance and the ever popular EMU mascot, ‘SWOOP’ will entertain. The ‘EMU SPIRIT’ dance team will be conducting a pregame dance tutorial for attending dance troupes.

The event will also honor the new induction class of the EMU Athletic Hall of Fame. This includes: Howard Booth (men’s gymnastics), Ingrid Boyce (women’s track), Traci (Parsons) McMullen (women’s basketball, women’s track), Linda Milholland (softball), Jamie Nieto (men’s track), Norm Parker (football) and John Schmidt (football).

For out-of-town visitors there is a special basketball package available. Polish fraternal organizations, Polish National Alliance and PRCUA are sponsoring the dance activities. The bilingual Polish-American newspaper “Polish Times – CZAS POLSKI” is the banner marketing partner for the day long event at the Convocational Center.
