Burtonwood Association Reunion in Folsom

The Burtonwood Association holds its annual reunion in Folsom a few weeks from now. Over 150 attendees are expected, according to Richard Simmons and Stella Studebaker, the reunion hosts.

The Burtonwood Association is a non-profit organization, staffed entirely by volunteers. It is dedicated to those who served at RAF Burtonwood Station in England, during WWII and in later years.

Burtonwood was the largest base in the world at that time, located in the North of England beween the cities of Liverpool and Manchester. When the US first went to war in 1941, Burtonwood was the first British base used by the US and it was the main base used for the Berlin Airlift after the war.

The aim of the Burtonwood Association is to uphold the memory of the men and women who served there, and the activities that occurred at RAF Burtonwood, Warrington, England from 1939 to the present day. They also record all those achievements and preserve them for future generations, and they honor those who served there with the USAAC, USAAF, RAF, USAF, US Army, HM Civil Service, HM Air Ministry and civilian employees.

Richard Simmons, a Folsom resident and one of the reunion hosts, says the October 2007 reunion honors the surviving veterans and descendents.
