Brave Souls Beat the Heat at Thursday Night Market

The Folsom Thursday Night Market again attracted a lot of happy people, families and friends. The temperature soared to around 108 and some people said they measured 110. Even so, everyone I spoke to said they were having a good time. There were plenty of places with shade.

The number of stallholders was down markedly, due to the temperature and the date. It was expected that quite a few would be missing because of other committments around the fourth of July holiday but the heat kept a few more away.

At 6pm, the traditionsl starting time, the crowd was thin, but around 7:30pm, with the temperature dropping and a slight breeze coming in, more people began to arrive.

We are always pleased to see the police at the market and this week, we were especially pleased to see the mounted police return and I took several photos.

The Certified Farmer’s Market was again in its new space in the 800 block of Sutter Street where the farmers can park their vehicles right next to their stalls, making it easy for them to set up and then pack everything away. Starting at 4am each day, we ask a lot of them to bring their quality produce and stay until 9pm. The fruit and vegetables were beautifully presented as always and great tasting too. I bought nectarines, peaches, plums, cherries and strawberries.

Newsblaze took 24 great photos, (see below), choosing one for the front page. Our visitors shown on the front page win a gift voucher for the Farmers Stalls. (So don’t forget to contact us if you are the front page photo.

If your photo is on this story page, please let us know how much you enjoyed the market – and if you have any suggestions. We hope to see you next week – and please remember to tell all your friends that your photo is in the newspaper and that they should come to the remaining Folsom Thursday Night Markets.

We were very pleased to have our front page photo winners from last week come down and chose their produce.

If your photo isn’t here, we’d still like your feedback about the market. We’ll be taking photos every week and if your photo is chosen for the front page, you receive a Farmer’s Market gift voucher.
