Beyonce, The Tiniest Puppy, Takes First Steps At Four Weeks

Beyonce, the world’s tiniest rescue puppy, now at four weeks old, has captured the heart of millions around the world – and who could resist the story and these photos? This week, she was given a clean bill of health from Folsom veterinarian, Dr Jennifer Sweet DVM.

Beyonce was not breathing when she was born and had to be resuscitated. At birth, she was so small that she fit into a spoon and weighed one ounce (28 grams). Four weeks later, she weighs a little under 7 ounces, (around 200 grams), a far cry from her birth weight of just under 1 ounce.

Definitely the runt of the litter, her brothers and sisters currently weigh in at 1 pound 10 ounces or more (740 grams). But now, Dr Sweet thinks Beyonce may be able to live a full and complete life.

Beyonce, named for the song “I am a survivor” by R & B singer Beyonce, was rescued by The Grace Foundation of Northern California, a nonprofit organization that rescues and rehabilitates hundreds of animals each year.

The Grace Foundation matches rescue animals with disadvantaged and special needs children and youth in therapeutic, educational and leadership programs.

The world record academy pronounced Beyonce “The world’s smallest puppy,” two weeks ago. They called the Guinness Book of Records, but they don’t have a category for smallest puppy.

In the past two weeks, the team of Beyonce and The Grace Foundation, brought the plight of rescue animals out in the open. Beyonce is now an ambassador for homeless and shelter dogs and cats all over the world.

“In my life I haven’t been able to get a message across about rescue animals like this tiny 6 ounce puppy has been able to.”

– Beth DeCaprio, Grace Foundation of Northern California

DeCaprio says more than 3 million dogs and cats in America will not be as lucky as Beyonce and her family. Many will be euthanized this year simply because there are not enough homes for them. DeCaprio says “This problem is 100% correctable if people would spay and neuter their pets and adopt from rescues and shelters instead of buying purebred dogs.”

Thousands of phone calls and over 500 applications have been received for Beyonce, but the foundation decided not to adopt her out, because she should be shared by the whole country and the rescue pet cause needs her help and support.

Asked why Beyonce has made such an impact, Michael Hutchinson, a Grace Foundation supporter said “At a time when despair and suffering occupies our TV screens and newspapers. It is nice to have a story that renews our faith in the amazing capacity of all creatures to give hope to others. Little Beyonce is proof that the ability to change the world is not determined by size. As she has proven, all it takes is an ounce of heart and determination to make a difference.”

The Beyonce, “I’m a Survivor” fund has been established at the Grace Foundation to support last chance rescue animals.

The Grace Foundation is an amazing organization. Founded in 2004, The Grace Foundation is dedicated to saving the lives of horses and other animals. Grace provides critical care and rehabilitation for abused and neglected horses, livestock, dogs, and cats.

Many of these animals are then utilized for equine-assisted learning and therapeutic programs for youth and children. The Grace Foundation has helped thousands of at-risk kids, or those who suffered from abuse and neglect.

Grace offers programs for people of all ages, struggling with autism and other physical and emotional challenges. They also conduct youth leadership programs and life science classes.

With the help of Beyonce, The Tiniest Puppy, the organization hopes to achieve much more.
