Iraqi Army Receives $9.8 Million of Equipment Via Foreign Military Sales

BAGHDAD – The Iraqi Army received International ™ 5-Ton cargo trucks it has procured through the Foreign Military Sales program. The latest receipts of equipment took place at the Old al Muthana vehicle storage facility in Baghdad on Apr. 15.

The Foreign Military Sales program in Iraq is managed by the Security Assistance Office within the Multi-National Security Transition Command – Iraq. The function of the Security Assistance Office is to help the Iraqi Government build its defense capability through the purchase of defense equipment and services. Foreign Military Sales cases are funded by the requesting government, in this case the Government of Iraq. The major difference between a Foreign Military Sales case and an Iraqi Security Forces Fund case is the funding source. Iraqi Security Forces Fund cases are funded with U.S. appropriated dollars specifically dedicated to procuring equipment and services in support of the Iraqi Security Forces.

Today LTC Keith E. These vehicles provide a crucial lift component to the Iraqi Army for the transportation of personnel and equipment.

These receipts were from two separate Foreign Military Sales cases. A portion of this recent delivery completed the task order for a Foreign Military Sales case valued in excess of $16.84 million that included 114 trucks and various repair parts necessary for their sustainment. The remaining 61 vehicles that were transferred today are part of another foreign military sales case that includes a total of 228 of these 5-ton cargo trucks and repair parts. This contract is valued in excess of $33.6 million and is on track to have all deliveries completed by the end of June 2008.

These trucks will be issued to Iraqi Army units throughout the country as new units are generated and to replace any losses that have occurred in their efforts to secure the country.
