The 38th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards: Soap Operas Still Have a Pulse

The 38th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards shows that soap operas still have a pulse, with General Hospital receiving 21 nominations, follow by The Young & the Restless with 20, The Bold & the Beautiful with 14, and the soon-to-be unjustly canceled All My Children with 13; all four are up for Outstanding Drama.

GH and Y&R each two Outstanding Supporting Actor nominations, as AMC‘s Alicia Minshew (Kendall) and Debbi Morgan (Angie) are up for Outstanding Lead Actress.

One Life to Live (OLTL), another future, wrongly demised soap opera, is up for a dozen – including Bree Williamson (Jess/Tess/Bess/Wes) for Outstanding Supporting Actress and Brian Kerwin (ex-Charlie) for Outstanding Supporting Actor.

CBS’ As The World Turns (ATWT), which was canceled last September after 54 years, has been nominated for four – including Outstanding Lead Actress for Colleen Zenk (ex-Barbara), Outstanding Lead Actor for Michael Park (ex-Jack) and Outstanding Supporting Actress for Julie Pinson (ex-Janet). Along with Maura West (ex-Carly; Diane, Y&R) for Lead Actress, Park and Pinson won in those categories the previous year.

NBC’s Days of Our Lives (DOOL) is up for five – including James Scott (E.J.) for Outstanding Lead Actor, and Chandler Massey (Will) for Outstanding Younger Actor; the rest of the nominations can be found online at www.emmyonline.org.

Fellow nominee Wayne Brady hosts this year’s Daytime Emmys, which will be broadcast live in Las Vegas Sunday, June 19 at 8p on CBS.
