Night Watch: SHARM el SHEIKH – AKI reports that large amounts of Israeli tourists have been leaving the area for the past two days after reports began circulating two weeks ago that this area could be hit by its third terrorist attack in two years, the last one being in April. Egyptian General Harun Hassan, in charge of Sinai security, stated that the area is on maximum alert. [AKI]
Four men are being sought by security forces and it is believed they are in possession of explosives. This is right after Tehran had al Qaeda announce an Egyptian branch of the organization and headed by the younger brother of the assassin of Egypt President Anwar Sadat in October 1981. Tehran named a street after the assassin. Before his death Sadat handpicked Hosni Mubarak as his successor. Mubarak also agreed with Sadat breaking ranks with the disappointing examples of pan- Arab- Islamic unity and instead closed ranks with the West. It is for that reason Mubarak has never done anything to support the Jihad and its targeting of the West-Israel and especially since it is under Tehran’s leadership.
Tehran is scheduling these attacks to coincide with its increased military pressure against Israel and the US/UK occupation of Iraq. It is quite possible that tourists are not the target this time but economic targets that would be a blow to Egypt’s economy. With the equipment Tehran has supplied to al Qaeda here in the past year and reported on crossfirewar.com they have the potential of attacking international shipping in the Suez Canal.
