Wild Winds Hammer South Australia

Power Outages Across the State

Wild winds with a speed of 80-100 kilometres per hour hammered South Australia including the state’s capital city of Adelaide, Mount Crawford, Cape Willoughby and at Strathalbyn.

The wind gusts caused widespread damage in the city and other towns of South Australia. In fact, more than 4,500 homes and facilities are without power across the state.

Due to strong winds, a tree fell on a car on in The Parade at Norwood in Adelaide’s east. Fortunately, nobody was hurt by the incident.

In addition, Ferry services between Kangaroo Island and Cape Jervis have been cancelled. And, the much-anticipated Adelaide’s National Volunteers Week parade has been cancelled as well due to the severe weather warning.

Be Aware of Rising Tides

On the coast, the state expects high tides and coastal erosion to occur due to the worst weather conditions in years. A warning was issued by the state to all localities to be more vigilant and avoid casualties.

According to the weather bureau, sea levels may rise up to one meter along parts of Spencer Gulf and Gulf St Vincent coastlines.
