The Increasing Popularity of Ductless Air Conditioners

Across the country, the electricity rates for homeowners has increased by about 15% over the last 10 years. Unfortunately, this trend is only expected to continue. As energy prices rise, it will become more expensive than ever for homeowners to operate their heating and cooling system.

The average heating and cooling costs per household is $1,056 a year. This far exceeds any other energy expense in the home. In fact, heating and cooling utilizes 47% of the energy. The only other appliance that comes remotely close to using this much energy is the water heater, which costs about $317 a year per household.

A Growing Market for Ductless Air Conditioners

Because of these increasing costs, many homeowners are looking for ways to reduce their energy bill. One popular option is a mini-split, which is a ductless system that works to heat and cool the home. Because it can do both, this heating and cooling system is often called a mini-split heat pumps or ductless air conditioner.

This type of heating and cooling system is one of the fastest-growing sectors in the HVAC industry. According to MarketsandMarkets, the global mini-splits market is projected to reach a value of 78.62 billion dollars by the year 2021.

The Benefits of Ductless Air Conditioners

There are many reasons for the increasing popularity of ductless air conditioners. Besides receiving favorable high performance HVAC heating and cooling reviews, homeowners realize the many benefits of ductless air conditioners. One of the most important reasons for installing one is to improve energy efficiency.

Some brands of mini-splits use 60% less energy than other types of heating and cooling systems. Besides that, compared to conventional air conditioners, a mini-split can cut cooling costs by up to 30%. This is good news for homeowners who are concerned about rising energy costs. Along with being more energy efficient, mini-splits will last about 20 years, compared to 15 years for a central air conditioning.

When a home contains ductwork, there is an increased chance for contaminants, such as carbon dioxide, dust mites, toxic vapors, and fungus to become trapped. Because mini-splits are a ductless system, they can actually help to improve the indoor air quality of the home.

Due to the many desirable features, ductless air conditioners are in high demand. If the HVAC industry is able to keep up, ductless air conditioners will continue to experience explosive growth and become the future of American HVAC systems.
