The Best of American Bandstand: April 19, 1986

Newsblaze presents The Best of American Bandstand with your host, Dick Clark.

After lukewarm response from her first two albums, Janet Jackson finally took Control of her career thanks to her collaborations with superproducers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. Released in 1986, the album went #1 and spawned six Top 20 singles such as the one you’re about to see in this YouTube clip. Here’s Miss Janet on her third Bandstand appearance with “What Have You Done for Me Lately”

Like the Artist formerly and still known as Prince, this family group hailed from Minneapolis, and like New Edition, they also filled in the void left by the Jacksons in the mid-late 80s with hits such as “You Got it All” written by Rupert Holmes, “Cross My Broken Heart,” and this next song they’re about to performed here on Bandstand that went to #3 on the charts in 1986. Here are The Jets, and they got a “Crush On You.”

From his debut solo album Pictures for Pleasure, here’s Charlie Sexton in the Video Showcase with “Beat’s So Lonely.”

Well, that’s all the time we have here today, so thank you for joining me. Let’s close out this edition of American Bandstand with a tribute to Patrick Swayze singing “She’s Like The Wind” from the movie that swept us off our feet: Dirty Dancing.
